- He has served as Chairman and CEO, of the H.T. Hackney Company, Knoxville, TN, a wholesale grocery, gas & oil, furniture manufacturing company, and previously served as President of American Limestone Company.
- Sansom served as Chairman of The Citadel Trust, 2006. The football field at Johnson Hagood stadium is named in his honor.
